Log 5th August:
In Salinas about half way along the north coast of Spain. Have been in a routine of surfing, walking, reading and traveling to the next spot. This place has the best waves so far and free camping near the beach, so it qualifies for 2 nights.
Spent a fair bit of time organizing Chris to fly to Zurich urgently and meet her folks who are flying over due to Chris's aunties serious illness. That effects our plans somewhat as I will stay in Spain but it's good timing in many ways and Chris gets to see her family albeit under unfortunate circumstances.
A few days back we went inland to Picos de Europa mountain ranges. Did some trekking above 2,000 metres and it rained torrentially. It was really great but we were so wet we got a room in a lovely Alpine style hotel and actually had a hot shower and slept in a bed. Luxury! Next day was fine and we strolled around the lovely Alpine village of Potes ( must see) then headed back to the coast.
Just to explain; our van is a Hiace with a fold out bed and a little storage area. There's no toilet or shower or fridge. So we have to park near public toilets ( or duck behind a bush) and have cold showers at the beach. And it hasn't been over 25C yet. My poor wife is a trooper, but for me it's perfect.
The last few days have been spent in coastal towns chasing waves. Crowds are incredible so don't come here in summer. It's impossible to park and it's less relaxing. Beaches are standing room only. But it's all good.
Hopefully Portugal will be less crowded.

Tim Dockers are getting thrashed by North Melbourne. Webby is off to Vagas this Thursday and JBestall's nasty rash just wont go away. Dans somewhat obscure language classes are paying off (what language - I don't know). Dan is over on Monday 22 for dinner so we can all hopefully chip in and send you and Chrissy an appropriate note. You are getting slack with photos and news etc. I have pretty much given up on the winter grass and have finally given the lawn a mow. It was sophies 18th last week and we have family coming over tomorrow. When are the Casey's over? say hi and add to the blogg
