Inca Trail Day Three.
Ouchy! Brrr……
We woke up sore and freezing this morning. We looked outside our tent to see an awesome display of huge glaciers stretched out before us. So, the view during breakfast was definitely one for the memory bank! Ahhh…
Our bodies just did not want to move. Did I mention it was freezing?
It would be another one and a half hours uphill to get to our last mountain peak, and then a STEEP two and a half hours downhill to camp.
Struggle-street.
Our only saving light was knowing that once we made camp for lunch, it would be the end of our hiking for the day. YIPPEEE!!
We made camp by 12.30pm, which gave us free time for the rest of the day.
Tim had enough energy to then hike to a waterfall nearby for a 'refreshing' shower. My knees said "no".
This campsite was the one we had all been waiting for. This was the campsite where we could buy beer and wine and have a HOT shower!! Goodbye baby wipes!! Well, so I thought… I paid my 5 sol. and waited in line for 45 minutes for my hot shower. THERE WAS NO HO WATER!!! I was slightly distraught for a few minutes, but soon warmed up with a glass of red.
We then enjoyed our 'Last Supper' and farewelled our porters. They had been so magnificent the whole trek. We had some of the younger porters in giggling fits after planting 'thank you pecks' on their cheeks to show our appreciation. So sweet. (young blonde Westerners must look funny close up, huh? - ha ha ha).
We arrive at the lost city of the Incas tomorrow!!!! That's right! MACHU PICCHU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake-up call? 4am, baby!!!
