Woke up around 10, tried to have a shower but hostel (pickled tea) was overrun by gaggle of japanese tourists. Laura lost £60 and was therefore quite sad so we went to sharkies for a goats cheese burger to cheer her up. Followed this up with £1.75, 3 hour train journey in 38 degree heat. Would have been a charmer but forgot to take any water and thus nearly died. Went to 19th street for dinner, but in an attempt to avoid food poisoning just had beer. Met funny expat called James in a chinese restaurant (his 6th out of 7 in the same restaurant- original). Seemed to be some ex high fligher foodie type who probs had a mid life crisis and now works for an NGO and teaches Shan state kids in Yangon. Interesting chap. Onto bagan tomorrow. Met virologist from Malaysia in dorm. He's got me worried about contracting bird blu inn madlalay.
