Tomorrow morning I'm leaving Tasmania flying to Melbourne, then another flight to Christchurch for SPRING BREAK IN NEW ZEALAND!!! I can't wait to get there. Here's my itinerary so you all can keep up with where I am and what I'm doing (contain your jealousy, please).
DAY 1: Christchurch to Flock Hill Station
Today we commence our 7 day adventure when we climb the Southern Alps to Flock Hill Station - our home for the night. This is a 14000 hectare working sheep station. You'll be blown away by the farm and spectacular scenery- plus if you've seen the movie Narnia, things are going to look a little familiar!
DAY 2: Flock Hill to Fox Glacier
We head to the wild west coast and Hokitika. Continuing on we stop at the visitor's centre in Franz Josef, and an opportunity here to take a scenic twin glacier helicopter flight to our afternoon destination- Fox Glacier.
DAY 3: Fox Glacier to Queenstown
Westland National Park abounds with high mountain peaks and glaciers and today we'll have a chance to walk on a flowing river of ice! A half day guided hike is an excellent way to take a closer look at Fox Glacier as your guides take you onto the lower icefall. We'll then head back into the mountains to negotiate Haast Pass on our way to Queenstown past Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea. The action capital of NZ- regardless of the time of year.
DAY 4: Queenstown
Today its time to play! And adventure awaits us everywhere. Choose from a huge selection of optional activities sure to get the blood pumping, with everything from bungy jumping, shotover jets, balloon rides and horseback riding. Enjoy the mountains and views from a bike or hike to Ben Lomond for 360* views. You name it - its all here and awaiting you in Queenstown!!
DAY 5: Fiordland
Today we take in some magnificent scenery. Admire the reflection in Mirror Lake, the views down the Hollyford Valley, and a short walk at the Chasm before we literally drive through the Homer Tunnel. We'll pass the town of Te Anau and travel to Fiordland and the incomparable Milford Sound. Here our overnight cruise takes us pat towering tree-lined cliffs and spectacular waterways. Kayak around the shoreline or go exploring in the tender craft with the nature guide.
DAY 6: Milford Sound to Lake Ohau
We make tracks out of Fiordland, back through Te Anau and past historic Kawarau Bungy site and onto Lindis Pass. The Kawarau River offers familar "Lord of the Rings" scenery (!!). Tonight's accommodation is at Lake Ohau, where our lakeside lodge has stunning views of Mt Cook. Time to enjoy a sunset drink with friends.
DAY 7: Lake Ohau to Christchurch
Today we follow the southern lakes hydroelectricity scheme around impressive blue water lakes and the ever-present Southern Alps as a backdrop. First stop Lake Pukaki and a chance for some amazing photos as we gaze across the clear blue waters to Mt Cook. We follow the canal system over to Lake Tekapo where there is an opportunity to take a scenic flight. Another photo opportunity at the "Church of the Good Shepard" before we enter the Canterbury plains and reach our final destination.
