Good morning buenos aires! Today I woke up early at 7am - jet lag! Luckily the hotel breakfast started at 7, so up we went. It was a spread of toast, fruit, salad and croissants. I had some eggs in toast and croissants!
After breakfast we had our map and decided to go check out some the sights of buenos aires. The best way to travel was via the subway, knowing little Spanish we managed to buys sube card and add peso to it. The lady said the card was for 2 people? I still have no idea how this worked, we just went through seperate and scanned it twice. The subway was hot and very busy yet easy to navigate. We took the subway to plaza Italia and saw a beautiful statue. We then walked down the street, seeing many statues and fountains and even a giant metal flower that opened with the sun! After 2 hours of walking we got back onto the subway to plaza de Mayo and went to look for the walking tour to join, however we were unable to find it. We then walked past the government house - the pink house with lots of police, down to the docks. At the docks we made a stop for some ice cream - very yummy. We then walked along the murky river to then see the Big Ben of Buenos aires. After this we got back into the subway and went to the hotel for a quick rest.
After a rest we went for a walk along lavalla street, a street filled with shops and cafes. We eventually sat down and had lunch at a cafe, I got a chicken schnitzel and had a glass of house wine - which they filled to the top of the glass. After this, feeling a little tipsy we walked back along the street and bought a scarf each for estudiantes for the football game. Back at the hotel we had a nap and spent some time in the jacuzzi before the match.
We also tried to go to one of the tall hotels on the Main Street to take a photo of the obelisco however they said we had to be guests, damn it!
At 6.30 we were picked up in a mini bus with our guide matteo to drive 70km away to la plata for a football match. We learnt that the stadium holds 60, 000, it has a roof and was built for the Copa America 10 years ago. Also due to violence in the past no alcohol is allowed in the stadiums and no away fans so there is a spare stand. About 1km from the ground there is a blockade so you have to get out and walk to the stadium. Our guide bought us the tickets and then we had to show our tickets to security, then girls and boys we seperate to be pat down at the entry and close tithe stands. Once in the stadium I went to the toilet, forgetting that it is Argentina, there was no toilet paper and a dirty seat. Once in the stand, we sat down, 20 rows from the sideline. On the pitch only the goalkeeper is allowed to warm up so they don't ruin it. When it was game time, the active area started chanting and singing, they even had drums. It was so loud and so amazing even though I didn't understand what they said. The game was fairly good quality, the pitch was wet so players slipped a little. In the first half arsenal score and then estudiantes equalised in the 80th minute and then scored an 86th minute winner so the crowd went nuts! After the game it started to rain again, and we got back onto the bus and slept until we arrived back in buenos aires at 1am! Such a long day and night but so much fun! Tomorrow we fly to igassu falls!
