So today is our last day in Marrakesh we're flying out at around half 7, plenty of time to 'souk' up the atmosphere one last time and hit the new town on the way to the airport.
So we headed around the souks again, I bought a really nice hand crafted ashtray for 25 dirham (about £2) down from 40. Haggling is just part of the nature here, even for something really cheap you just have to get it down because they double the price for tourists and it really is fun. I also bought some amber incense sticks for about 10 dirham I think, and had our last glass of proper orange juice from no. 49. It's amazing how accustomed you can get in a few days. When we first got here we were thinking oh my god what are we doing and now we're haggling prices and just generally loving this place.
We then made tracks back to our riad, said our goodbyes to the friendly, helpful people in the riad and our room which we have loved.
We thought we'd head straight to the new town, which is west just beyond the Medina wall. I can't tell you just how different it is. You cross the wall, dodging donkeys and mopeds carrying anything from a bag to a fridge, then you cross the wall and all of a sudden theres cars stopping for you to cross the street and everything just seems more...calm? is that the word? More civilised I guess, more organised. We passed a pizza hut and McDonalds which we found quite funny and walked around the gardens for a bit. I felt a bit rough today and was feeling rather unenthusiatic about leaving and flying home. I've fallen in love with this place its just so awesome and don't want to leave. Amy's feeling the same. We decided we'd seen the new town now and decided to hop in a taxi to the airport and get it over with. Once at the airport we took a few more random photos, had one last barter (50 dirham for 2 packets of biscuits down to 46. Go Amy!!) and said Bisslama to this incredible, eye-opening, amazing city.
Next stop: India!
