We've just come back from our Whitsundays sailing trip!! On the first day the weather was absolutely stunning- lying on the front nets of a catamaran in the sunshine sailing on the outskirts of the great barrier reef- you cant get much closer to perfect than that! We did a bit of snorkelling and saw some really cool fish. Later on that evening we had dinner which definitely lived up to expectations as we'd been told how good the food was. The crew also gave us a slideshow of all the different fish they'd seen on the Whitsundays and gave us some facts about them which made snorkelling the next day even more fun because we actually knew what we were looking at! Unfortunately the weather on the first night took a turn for the worse..we had an uncomfortable night ahead! To be honest, apart from the dinghy bashing into the side of our cabin and making us think we were in a miniature version of the titanic, the night's sleep wasnt too bad. The next morning the weather situation hadnt improved a great deal, but we still made it to Whitehaven beach, and it was so worth the sea sickness! The sand was the whitest we'd ever seen- the same colour as the clouds. Although it was raining, the scenery was still stunning. Frazer and I even managed to spot some sting rays swimming in the shallows an arms length from the beach, so it seems it was a good job the weather was bad so we didnt all run straight into the sea! We had a lot of fun taking some group pictures with Clay (the only crew member that didnt have an undying love for himself) and also some with just me and fraze as you can see from the picture for this entry! Once we'd left the beach we went snorkelling again which was great- we managed to see Priscilla, the Whitsunday's famous humpheaded wrasse. She was enormous! The rest of the snorkelling that day was good too- despite the bead weather Frazer and I were determined to jump in at every opportunity. That night gave us even more of a treat. Just as we had gone to bed, Clay ran through to our cabin to ask if we wanted to see a dolphin, and obviously we all jumped out of bed as quickly as we could to try and catch a glimpse. We got there just in time- at the back of the boat they turn on blue lights at night that shine in the water, and swimming around in them was a bottlenose dolphin! It turns out, the blue lights were attracting some smaller fish and the dolphin turned up for an easy meal. It was so cool to see a wild dolphin hunting and swimming around. The fact that the only way we could see it was in the blue light and the sky was pitch black and covered in stars just made it even more magical. It was an amazing way to end the trip. So even though the weather wasnt as good as it could have been for those few days, the trip itself definitely made up for it. We made some great friends and saw some incredible sights. Thank you 'Wings', you were really great!!
