After probably the best flight ever - chicken meal, Budweiser and Django Unchained - we touched down in Sydney at 6pm. By this time it was dark and rather chilly, which was surprising! Anyhow, we got through the airport all ok and arranged a shuttle bus into the city to our hostel. By hostel, as we discovered upon arriving at 'Asylum', we experienced a whole new definition of the word. The English translation of an Aussie hostel appears to be something along the lines of 'drug cavern'. On top of that, as we were late, we were given the worst room - appropriately named the prison. Anyway, once we settled in we found the inhabitants to be pleasant enough and all was well.. We just had to see it out! That evening we popped down to see the harbour and we caught a view of the magnificent Opera House in all of its nighttime beauty.. What a view! The following morning we then planned to get the rest of our Oz adventure all sorted. After a few visits to backpacker travel guides, we booked an all-in trip with Peter Pan's from Sydney to Cairns - all food, transport, island visiting, boats and accommodation sorted! Great! Although, I should mention, it costs an arm, a leg and another leg - draining us both of money. Hi parents. Anyway, that afternoon we met up with David, Dad's mate from back home, and caught up with one another over a beer and a bite to eat which was nice and was another example of the world being too small! After saying goodbye we walked to the iconic Harbour Bridge and got some wicked, wicked views of Sydney - it lives up to its great reputation! We also happened to bump into someone we met in NZ and caught up briefly - the odds of that.. We got back to the hostel and cooked our world famous noodles and tuna then hit the sack quite early (we're still jet lagged). The next day we went to Bondi Beach and spent the day enjoying the rays and chilling out a bit looking at the surfers. That evening we gathered all of our belongings, which has accumulated somewhat by now, and eventually found our bus stop that would take us overnight to Byron Bay. Can't wait!
