I made two day-excursions to Concón, a small city on the coast, with a beach facing northward. The beach is habitated by an increadible army of seagulls. I've never seen so many in one spot - must be many thousands. They tend to sit in the same spot, making the beach look like a black-and-white carpet, until one of them starts to get nervous and fly away, and thousands follow. Very impressive.
Concón beach is really very good for surfing. Its large, very flat, and the waves are just right for beginners and intermediates. There's just one little detail which makes this beach just "very good" and not perfect: It is SOO COLD! OMFG, even with a wetsuit I couldn't stay in for longer than one hour. At least I haven't forgotten the basics of surfing from Costa Rica, but it's really too cold here to practice it any more. I guess that is an assignment for the next trip to the mediterranean or to the Canares.
