Before breakfast I took a walk to the big church on the hill behind the town. It was closed, but I got a good view of the countryside from up there. Then I set off to Lleida, a big town with a busy shopping centre. On the way in, I passed a demo against austerity cuts outside the employment exchange. Lots of noise but good natured. At the lunch stop cafe, the wifi password was 'insurrecion'.
Note Lleida was furthest south of this trip. Now I changed my heading to North-West, and had an uneventful ride through the 'Central Depression' from there to Monzon, stopping at Binefar for a quick beer.
I had checked on google maps that Monzon had several hotels, and after cycling round the centre on a recce, I ended up in the Vianetto, which was very nice and by the little river Sosa. I went for a walk up to Monzon castle (photo) a former powerhouse of the knights templar, arriving just as it closed. Nonetheless something about this town I really liked. After wandering round the shops South of the river, I had dinner in Restaurante Piscis on the North bank. Back in my hotel I used the wifi to book a room in Ejea de los Caballeros, quite a long way but I was feeling good, and today had been relatively short at 88km.
