Another big breakfast before heading on the road again. The first thing we see...Inverness Castle before driving into Carrbridge for petrol. Next to the petrol station was a lovely little river and the remains of an old bridge. We then took the scenic drive through Cairngorms National Park.
Again we are surrounded by dramatic hills of heather and clouds! At one point we could only see about 20 metres ahead and it was a toasty 10 degrees.
As it was the Queen's 90th birthday holiday in Australia we thought we'd call in for a visit at Balmoral Castle. Now this is a castle! We had cake, scones and tea and explored the castle and grounds. Liz didn't realise we were coming and was back in London.
After our tour we took off for Edinburgh. It was a couple of hours away, but mostly through scenic countryside so we coped ok. Arriving in Edinburgh we got the keys to our apartment which is right beside Edinburgh Castle. Absolutely fantastic. Anthony was quite taken with the stadium he thought was next door, I explained it was seating being installed for the upcoming Edinburgh Tattoo!
After off loading the hire car our taxi took us past Hogwarts (but there wasn't a game of quiddich going on). At out apartment we put on a load of washing and then we explored the local pubs and settled on The Castle Arms. We relaxed listening to some Led Zeppelin and other suitably entertaining classics while taking in some of the soccer. We have all day tomorrow to explore this city on foot. Looks pretty good so far.
