Out of the cabin by 7:50 am and straight into the dining room for breakfast: eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. As we left, we noticed a queue for breakfast snaking through the ship. YES! We got in early enough!
We went out on deck and watched the ship dock before returning to the lounge to wait for our turn to disembark. Exit time was delayed and we hoped collecting our bags and going through customs wouldn't take too long. We needn't have worried as it took less than ten minutes to get off the ship, find our bags and whizz through customs and into the taxi. No traffic either!
We arrived at the airport, checked in electronically and then queued to drop off our bags. Of course, it wasn't the right queue and we had to move to the end of another long queue, which then proceeded to get even longer with only one person serving. Finally we were finished and able to go through security. We took off for Rome then transferred to a second flight to Budapest. We finally arrived in our Airbnb apartment in Budapest an hour late.
Our taxi driver let us know that Budapest was full this weekend due to the Formula 1 race being on. And yes, we saw Ferraris on the street again.
What a great location! We are staying in one of the main pedestrian streets (Zrinyi Utica) which is lined with restaurants. It has St Stephens Basilica at one end and Szechenyi Chain Bridge and Buda Castle at the other. The bridge spans the river Danube between Buda and Pest and was built in 1849.
We had some delicious Hungarian food, beer and wine for dinner and then settled in to watch TV and update the blog!
