We left Doolin and crossed Corkscrew Hill. This was a narrow winding road and yet the speed limit was the ubiquitous 100 kph. Needless to say we didn't get to 60. There was a a scary point when the caravan we were following had to move over (into the hedge!) so a coach could pass. Ireland's idea of a main road varies from what we are used to!
We then travelled up past Galway Bay eventually leaving the countryside behind for the city of Dublin. Our accommodation was a lovely old building in what was obviously once a gentile neighbourhood, but now it was next to a huge stadium. A quick search of Google showed the road was the site of a riot in 1995!
We walked 100 metres down the road to catch the train two stops to the centre of Dublin. I found a new museum which explored the migration and impact the Irish have had on the world. It was extremely interactive with a fantastic use of technology. It was really interesting looking at why people left Ireland, where they went and the impact they have had on sport, religion, music, literature, politics, etc. Seven Australian prime ministers have Irish ancestry and 22 American presidents. Gaelic footballers were brought over to improve AFL in Australia and Irish music is the forerunner of Country & Western music.
After the museum I trotted off through Dublin along the banks of the River Liffey to meet Anthony at "The Quay's Bar". When I got to the Temple Bar area it was crowded. People were spilling out of some of the bars and you couldn't get into The Quay's Bar for rowdy drinkers. The football had been on and Ireland had lost to Belgium at Euro 2016! I couldn't find Anthony anywhere. When I rang him he was back at our B&B - too many loud drinkers for him!
After catching the train back to Lansdowne Street I met up with Anthony again and we wandered up the road to Ballsbridge. At the local pub, "The Bridge", we stopped for a pre-dinner drink and then went to Ravi's Indian restaurant for dinner. Seriously one of the best Indian meals we have had. We then walked back to our B&B - still daylight at 9:30!
