Two nights in Hervey Bay gave us a full day to explore & enjoy this lovely place. Having heard various reviews of the town we were pleasantly surprised by the pretty & relaxed spot on the huge expanse of Wide Bay. Finally on our last day we had fine, mostly sunny weather so I hit the water to try snorkeling with Geoff. Tuesday & Wednesday brought some exciting weather including gale force winds & torrential rain for much of the time. The wind at night was ferocious & loud bringing down lots of branches & sadly some birds. It's a bit unpleasant finding dead birds beside the path & also some noddies trapped in Pisonia seeds which stick to their feathers & render them unable to escape so they just starve to death. Saturday, Sunday & Monday gave us days with some sunshine amongst wind & rain so we took part in much that was on offer to see & do. We walked through the Pisonia forest to Shark Bay, went on the guided island walk all the way around the beach, viewed several presentations on sharks, turtles, ocean conservation & David Attenborough's Great Barrier Reef.
