Soooooo, the last three days were horrific, not in a dangerous way though, don't worry! Briefly explained...
12 hour bus to Boa Vista, sleep overnight in the bus station on the chairs along with a few locals! Catch bus in the morning to cross the border, get stopped at the border by armed police and the only English on the bus, told to get off with bags, because our entry stamps to Brazil had no dates on. Luckily, the driver managed to charm the police and they let us back on, so we headed on to the border office. No problems with the border and we carried on to Puerto de Cruz. The scenary changed as soon as we got into Venezuela, mountains rising to the sky until they hit the clouds.. reminded of Jurassic Park for some reason!
Overnight bus and we hit Puerto de Cruz at about midday, we were told beforehand that you get twice the money if you exchange US dollars on the black market for local Bolivars, you get about 4-1 at the bank and 8-1 on the black market, the black market we used was at a fancy hotel!! We got our bolivars and booked another coach to Merida, nearly there! After playing football with a local lad in the street we got back on the bus for the final leg.
After another night on the bus we reached Merida, a small city up in the Andes. Huge mountains everywhere you look, my photos will explain. We went out a couple of nights and did all of the sight seeing lark, many squares and statues. Met up with a few friends from the Amazon one night, was good to catch up, plus gave away my hoody as one of the girls was cold, what a gentleman! I will miss that on the freezing coaches though... hopefully will see them again to get it back.
