We wanted to be up and out early today cos Magic Kingdom is huge and will take all day!!
By 7.30 I was up, showered, dressed and managed to make a reasonably palatable cup of tea in the coffee machine. All I needed now was 2 pieces of toast with vegemite and I'm set for a busy day. While Rodd gets himself organised I thought I'd go downstairs to the dining room. Before I got seated by the hostess I thought I'd better check with her if I could just buy 2 slices of toast.. I didn't want the whole $9.95 cold buffet... unfortunately she told me I'd have to pay the $9.95.. they don't sell just toast. Really????
In hindsight I should have asked to speak to her supervisor but for some reason I was just feeling really irritated about being asked to pay $9.95 for 2 slices of toast so I just said "fine, I'll find something to eat somewhere else then"... and sulked all the way back to the room!!!
Now I am not good in the morning if I don't get to eat something so things are already looking bad but I decided all was ok, I'd be fine, we'll just get the bus to Magic Kingdom and I'll get something there. So we waited, and waited and waited for the bus... finally I was feeling so hungry and sick I suggested we walk the 10 mins to Downtown Disney to find breakfast. Rodd readily agreed and it was a pleasant walk.. along the way we found a major typo in a Disney sign!!! Oops!!
We got to DD and walked the length of it.. through Pleasure Island and all the way down to West Side... hmmmm there's nothing open!!! Who would have thought?? We tried going out to the bus stop we'd been to the first night but only found a sign saying buses don't start till 11am from this location. Things are rapidly going downhill.... Rodd's starting to feel a bit hungry now too and I'm positively starving, quite lightheaded and nauseous..... not good, tempers flared!!! "It's not my fault nothings open here yet!!!"..... we both decide there's no point being cranky with each other, it's not solving the problem so we wander back toward DD and see another sign for buses....yay... there's actually buses coming and going!! We chatted to the man in the bright orange vest and he told us the best way from here to Magic Kingdom is to get the bus to the Disneys Wilderness Lodge and change there for MK... OK... we're finally on our way..... it was nearly 10am by the time we got there... so much for the early start!!
And... still the problem of food hadn't been addressed!!! When we got through the gate we headed straight over to Frontier Land to get a fastpass for Big Thunder Mountain but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance... so I just said "let's just get food"... the only place we'd seen was a little cart selling corndogs and drinks... so we got a corndog each and I got a cup of tea!! I don't know why but when I saw Corn Dog I expected something like a Cornjack... you know creamed corn in a crunchy casing... but this was a pluto pup, a tiny pluto pup... and I'm NOT a fan of pluto pups... Oh well... it's food, and I'm so hungry I'm getting to the point that food, any food, is going to make me sick.
Ok... I'm fed and ready to ride!!
I found a little nook with a bench and bin so hid my cup of tea behind the bin and we ventured into Splash Mountain... there was virtually no-one over this side of the park yet so we walked straight onto the ride... it was fun... not a big thrill ride but good fun.
After that I retrieved my tea, still there and hot and drank it as we made our way over the other side of the park... past the castle... and into Tomorrow Land. This was my favouite Land.... the people mover was great.. it just wanders around through and/or passed all the sights in Tomorrowland. We went on Space Mountain, that was so much fun, it's a roller coaster in the dark.. I love those rides in the dark!!!
Monsters Inc Laugh Floor was pretty amusing... everyone is sitting in a theatre and on the screen is a "monster"... but he can see the audience, a camera puts peoples faces up on a screen and the monster asks them questions.. all very interactive... and funny. Rodds' face popped up on the screen, and a guy came and shoved a microphone to his mouth.. then the monster asks his name.. "Rodd".... Monster (M) says "Baarrrrb"... (R).. "no Rodd... R.O.D.D.. Rodd"... (M) "Raarrrb".. (R) in a drawn out american accent "no Rarrrrdd"... (M) "oh Raarrrrd... you makin fun of me Raarrrrd"?? I am soooo glad he didn't pick me!!!
Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin was pretty cool too.. you're in a "spaceship" and you have to shoot the targets as you move through space!! It was a laser light you had to aim and shoot and I just couldn't get this one to shoot where I wanted it too but Rodd was awesome at it.. his score was huge!! Thanks to fastpass we did this one twice.. my score got worse!
All I'll say about Stitches Great Escape is... don't bother.... there is no more to say!! We went on Pirates of the Caribbean, so, so... and a Jungle boat ride, very dodgy!! Climbed to the top of the Swiss Family Robinson house... whilst eating an apple, OMG that was soooo good after not eating anything but a tiny pluto pup all day. Oh actually I tell a lie.. I had a huge soft pretzel which I put in my bag and nibbled on all day, that was pretty yummy too!
It was about 2pm by the time we'd done all this so we decided to go back to the hotel for a few hours for lunch and a swim and then come back to Magic Kingdom at night for the fireworks over the castle. We caught the monorail to the transport and ticket centre then another monorail to Epcot and then a bus back to the motel... arghhh... that took an hour and a half!!!
So lunch and a swim.. and we both just look at each other and agree that we couldn't be bothered spending another couple of hours travelling to and back from Magic Kingdom to see the fireworks... in some ways I'm sorry we missed it, we didn't see Dumbo and It's a small world and so many other things but we've been there... done that.
I must admit I'm not a huge theme park fan, I did love some of the rides but quite frankly I was a bit disappointed with Walt Disney World as a whole... so many of the rides were just plain lame and the whole thing is aimed squarely at kids and families... yes, yes I know... it's Disney World but it should have more thrill rides for the adrenaline junkies!! well ok I'm not that but, you remember the ride Rodd went on at the Stratosphere in Vegas, right????
Once again we spent the night at our local bar area... ended up back at Buffalo Wild Wings and got some "to go"..... after our obligatory 57 rum punches of course!!
Just realised we took next to no photos all day... sorry.
