Still driving west and south we popped (80kms) into Onslow, another small port town with a salt mine and gas plant. The road in was straight and flat and on either side of the road were hundreds and hundreds of huge red termite mounds that stretched for kilometres off into the distance. We left 80 mile beach and drove a few hours west and slightly south to Port Hedland where we had lunch at the river mouth and were in time to watch a big ship come in to be loaded. We left Barn Hill, saying farewell to our lovely neighbours who we'd spent the last few days with, and travelled 300 Km's south to 80 mile beach. Wow! What an amazing spot. After leaving Middle Lagoon we went back in to Broome for one night to restock and catch up with friends, the Schofields. It was fantastic to catch up with them. We then drove south to Barn Hill Station, a cattle station that meets the sea. The beach was stunning with bright red cliffs, white sand and the most incredibly shaped and patterned rocks. We left Broome vowing to return one day. We drove out of town but turned north to travel up Cape Leveque road. It was the strangest road we have travelled so far. It was bright red dirt/sand and graded so much that the road was bowl shaped. It was quite corrugated in parts and rough.
