Got up pretty early this morning and had a very nice breakfast at the hotel - pancakes and lots of fruit. I could happily live on fruit out here - it is the nicest thing in the world.
Went out to do some clothes shopping as that is one of the things that Hoi An old town is famous for (as well as being a Unesco world heritage site). Manisha found a place that she could get a coat, trousers and a new top made. She even got herself a new pair of boots made! I was a little annoyed as I couldn't get much done as I didn't really want to lug it all around with me for the next year - plus who needs a winter coat when I'm planning on having a year long summer! Instead, I got jewellery made - a ring and a necklace in silver for US$33. Not bad at all!
In between the shopping we did do some sites- saw the Japanese covered bridge, which was fairly interesting and walked around near the riverside. Was so quiet and nice. There were a fair few tourists around, but not huge numbers which was nice. Had lunch in a place calle the Mermaid which was really good- had some white rose again and it was a lot better than the other place reccommended in the lonely planet and had this tuna steak (which didn't look or taste like tuna, so we decided that it probably wasn't tuna) with a garlic and chilli coating and mango salsa. Probably was one of the best things that I ate so far on my trip.
After our very lovely lunch - we visited a couple of more sites. First we went to the Tan-Ky house, has elements of Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese architecture. It was very pretty. After that we headed to one of the museums. We actually ended up going to the wrong museum - we ended up learning a lot about the history of Hoi An, which wasn't bad as it was quite interesting. We just spent the rest of the day wandering the streets, loooking at clothes shops and watching the locals make lanterns and wood carvings. Was very interesting to see them in action.
For dinner we splurged a little and went to the Mango Rooms. We had lovely food and great cocktails in a great restaurant. Was the best meal of the trip (certainly topped the mermaid - it was overall a pretty good food day). I chose my drink cause it sounded cool - a Mango Fandango! Luckily it was really nice.
