Was still feeling pretty rough when I got up but just decided to get up and enjoy the day.
When to the pharmacist who was very helpful and gave me various things to take for my illness. Then went off to the backpack district to book our tickets for the train. Met Jen there and sorted out our tickets. Found out that all the soft sleeper tickets had gone, so we were forced to take the hard sleeper (6 people in one area). I chose to take the top bunk as I found in India that this was generally the best place to sleep. Tried to book the other journeys but couldn't, so left it at that.
After that, we decided that we would do the walking tour of HCMC. The roads are completely crazy, but followed Nivi's advise of just walk - don't stop, the bikes will avoid you! I wasn't so worried about the bikes, was more worried about the cars, trucks and buses! The tourist bike drivers were slowly over taking the tuk-tuk drivers for the award of most annoying people - they either call "hey, lady" or "where you from, India?" or they just clap at you and say "want bike, 1 hour very cheap" They also follow you for a bit when you say no, which after a while, can get very irritating! Got to the market which was quite cool - sold any thing and everything there. Was nice and cool in there and didn't smell half as much as some of the other markets I had been in. Just wandered around for a bit, then headed on with the walking tour - learnt that the trick to crossing the roads was to follow the Vietnamese people, they knew what they were doing. Got part way down the road, decided that I was too hot and instead got a cab to the War Remanants Museum, got there at 11.15, not realising that everything closes at 12 for lunch! Saw a couple of the exhibitions but one of them made me feel very sick, so I decided to sit down until Manisha finished - which happened to be at the same time that we were getting chucked out! When to check out the Reunification Place- weren't that impressed with it - we thought that we had gone to the wrong thing but after consulting the map a number of times, it seemed like we had gone to the right place. We walked back towards the hotel, on the way back, Manisha bought some mango from a cute old lady. Grabbed some lunch at a cafe, then went to the hotel and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.
Manisha got up and had a swim, I was still feeling fairly rough, so stayed in our room and relaxed. She met some Kiwi's by the pool who told her about their experience on the trains- cockroaches, rats and unclean linen! Great! Just what we wanted to hear, perhaps it was better that we didn't manage to book the rest of the train tickets.
Went to Lemongrass for dinner- was really nice. I had really simple food, veggies and rice. Manisha had a very nice looking mixed seafood noodle thing. She enjoyed it quite a bit. Felt much better but just went to chill out in the hotel!
