So today I got up and packed my final bits in order to check out so I could check back in later with my group. So I dropped my bags off to the lobby and then caught a taxi to the Olympic Park made famous by the Calgary Olympics in 1988 and the Jamaican Bobsled team and obviously Cool Runnings! So I explored the Olympic Site and saw and sat in the actual bobsled that was used in the film. I then checked in ready for my summer bobsled ride along the Olympic track. So after signing my life away we were driven to the top of the run, where we were given our helmets and watched a short safety video to ensure we were all nice and safe. Then we walked down the track to the bobsled and for our ride. As it is summer and there is no ice on the track we were in a wheeled bobsled. So I got in the bobsled with the other two riders and our driver then got in and we were off. In order to make sure you don't get flung around too much you have to sit with your shoulders scrunched up around your ears and your head down.
The ride took 51 seconds, we reached speeds of 74 km per hour and one of the bends was 270 degrees. There wasn't much of a view (except the view of the helmet of the person in front of me) but it was definitely a good experience. From here I watched the next group come down and then collected my bag and had a little bit more of an explore around the site. Unfortuantly the Canada Hall of Fame was closed so I caught a cab back to Calgary and walked to get some lunch and to visit the Olympic Plaza in town. The Olympic plaza was very colourful and obviously celebrated the achievements of the Canadian Olympians.
After this I went back to the hotel to check in and meet my new group ready for my next tour.
So I checked in and met my new roommate for the next couple of weeks -Sarah. Sorted my stuff and then we went for a walk by the river before meeting the rest of our group.
When we met our group we had a meeting to introduce ourselves and then went to dinner. After dinner we went to bed ready for the start of our Canadian Rockies adventure tomorrow.
