Hello, hope your all enjoying the rain and snow in sunny old england! Arrived in Thailand after spending just under a week in OZ. Glad we weren't there too long, its bloody expensive. OZ was good for a week and gave us a chance to catch up with friends we met in south america and laura an old friend of nicolas from london.
Left sydney after just 6 days for bangkok, arriving quite late. Decided to stay near to the airport for the first night, before travelling into Bangkok the next day.
Well what can we say, Bangkok is a total contrast to anywhere we've been since south america. Its dirty, crowded, the fumes are horrendous and everybody wants to rip you off. But apart from that its great. Headed straight for the infamous khau san rd the backpacker district of bangkok. Managed to get a hotel onspec and to be honest it wasn't too bad, well apart from the hotel management had no idea who was staying there and for how long.
Managed to get our visas for laos and cambodia arranged via the very dodgy mr thai, never again!! Lots to do in bangkok, took a river boat taxi past the palace etc which in its self is a mad experience, visited the immense weekend market ( about the size of leeds city centre ), went to a ping pong show ( a must in bangkok ) its just so funny.
Times running out so i'll have to get through this quickly! Left Bangkok via the goverment bus to Krabi and then onto koh lanta, which is such a beautiful island. I think the people make it so special, everyone is so friendly and laid back. The manager of the hotel just slept behind the desk all day.
Left Koh Lanta for Koh Pha Ngan on the Gulf coast, via the most horrendous days travel so far, dodgy bus and very dodgy ferry. But hey we made it and stayed a week by another gorgeous beach in a bambioo hut for 8 quid a night and just spent our time relaxing in the sun and swimming. Its great.
Currently on KOh samui before we head up north and into laos.
TAke care love andrew and nic
