From Vegas to the Grand Canyon....Wow- the canyon is big! It is a truly amazing sight. Went to pretty much every viewpoint. My big plan has been to run the rim-to-rim where you run from one rim (north or south) down into the canyon then up the other side. That's about 24 miles, and that's not even the big challenge, ultra marathon runners do the rim-to-rim-to-rim in half a day.
But anyway, I had to wait a few days because I would end up 100miles away and I am still currently with my parents and my mum wanted to stay at the bottom of the canyon at a place called Phantom Ranch. I decided to run the 9.5 miles down and run the 12.5 miles up the next day with nearly 5,000ft of ascent for a bit of practise in the only shoes I had which were these barefoot trail shoes. I'd not worn them in over a month (barefoot shoes need gentle getting used to, but I had no other option). So my calves have been so sore since doing this that I have barely been able to walk 10 steps or even drive! After several days of seriously painful self-massage i'm still walking like john wane after brokeback mountain. So I've had to abandon my rim-to-rim dream, but only for now, ill definitely be back to complete it. And I think I'm hooked on trail running...there might be more of this happening in the future, though maybe with different shoes.
The eating marathon continues however, peanut butter m&ms, reeses pieces, peanut butter cups, mini peanut butter cups, peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter fudge, peanut butter cookies, **peanut butter twix!!**, PB&Jelly bonk breaker bars, peanut butter snickers.....and then you can get these sachets of pure nut butter, peanut butter of varying flavours like chocolate peanut butter and honey peanut butter, but also almond butter, cashew butter and chocolate hazelnut butter- it is honestly like my absolute dreamworld. I'll be obese by the time I return home purely from nut-related products. The next layer if fat will be from breakfast where savoury and sweet meet together on one plate and are united by syrup....
