Today we left rainy Whitianga for Waitomo. Got the bus early in the morning and arrived there about lunchtime. Realised that there was going to be very little but caving to do there - there was one shop, a cafe and a vistor centre! Our hostel was quite nice though and we only had two nights there. The first afternoon we had a walk around (didnt take long) and booked a caving trip for the next day so we could see the famous glowworms! Wasn't much to do in the evening but we had an entertaining time cooking dinner - it's quite amusing trying to open tins without tin openers! sharp knives are the way forward! if a bit dangerous! hehe!

Went on our cave tour today - it was called 'Spellbound' and involved guided tours of two caves. The first was a small cave so we had to wear hard hats and head lights to go in - we looked cool! We went for a boat ride inside and there were millions of glowworms on the cave ceiling - just like stars in the sky! really pretty! Then we got given tea and biscuits in the middle of nowhere (the guide had brought them with her!) before we went to the second cave. This one was bigger and was more impressive because of the rocks - lots of stalligtites and stalligmites! In the afternoon we visited a rabbit 'Shearing Shed' which we thought was a bit weird but the rabbits were really cute - big white and fluffy! That evening we went out for a yummy pizza in the pizzeria at the hostel and packed for the next day.
