Hey,
Thought Id send a quick blog to let you all know that I have arrived safely in Perth,
My 1st few days were very relaxing. I stayed with Janines parents and just caught up with my sleep.
1st few days went to Fremantle which is a relaxing town just south of Perth. The weather hasnt been good enough to hit the beaches and as it is coming out of season, its very quiet around. My hostel was the Suncatcher and is full of long term stay backpackers, who were working in Freemantle over the winter. This was my first expeience of hostel living. I didnt realise how high maintenance I was till I got there and this was one of the nicer ones, I have been told!!! I got the top bunk (which I havent slept on a top bunk since I was twelve!!!) The room was a tip and there was a mice in it too!!. The girls in my dorm were lovely. All Canadian and lone travellers so gave me plenty tips on tours, money saving, work. People actually party till 4am and theres always some drunken idiot getting the karoake out!! Just part of the fun of travelling suppose but not fun if you actually want to snooze.
The weather has been ok, most of the time in my jeans and hoodie. It hasnt rained but def not beach weather. I havent done alot except alot of walking and just taking in the city. I wouldnt be in a rush to come back to Perth. it has a cool area called Northbridge which would be like Shoreditch or Camden. When you come from London though, it was a bit of a let down ;-( . I havent taken many pictures fro this reason.
I woke up this morning and decided to book my East Coast adventure. When you come from the UK, you really get a poor deal in terms of your money. Everything is very expensive ( $10 a glass of wine and $20 for a pizza) and the exchange rate is awful. My tour looks amazing, it includes everything from Cairns to Sydney inc travel, most meals, trips and hostels. It looks amazing, however I am going to need a job asap when I hit Sydney as you spend money like anything out here!!!
Everyone here drinks goon which is an aborigini word, its basically cheap boxed wine. Its actually disgusting, but you can mix it with soda and its not too bad. It gets you wasted which is fab for a night out cos booze are so expensive here.
I have met loads of people and had so many offers of places to stay lifts to different cities ect. Backpackers all look out for one another, its like a wee community. Most of them are English, Irish, Scots, Dutch German, Canadian and load of chinese!!
Anyway Ill stop my rambling. I have a 10 day safari booked from Perth to Broome, which includes Outback camping, snorkeling with dolphins and whale sharks, two National Parks and a night in a cattle station. I have two days in Broome (which roasting just now) and then heading to Cairns to start the East Coast. I am finally getting to see the real OZ!! Ill update you with my photos and stories in a few weeks as Ill have no internet access from tomoro.
Hope everyone is well. Please keep in touchXXXXXXX Oh and they LOVE the band AC/DC!!!! How random- they are from Perth!!
