Hola! Greetings from Ciudad de Mexico. This is Day Two of backpacking, already we have been to the Tlatelolco ruins (Aztec), the Basilica de Guadelupe (which is the second most visited Catholic site after the Vatican) and Teotihuacan. Whilst on the way to Teotihuacan we tasted Mezcal, Almond Tequila and Pulque (honey water found in the centre of a giant aloe vera plant). The city of Teotihuacan was over 20km squared but they have only uncovered 4km squared up to now and even that seemed huge! We climbed both the Pyramid of the Sun (3rd highest pyramid in the world) and the Pyramid of the Moon.
The hostal is good but noisy at night. Good for Mexican beer and tequila and the food is ok, not traditional Mexican but today we ate Cerviche (a traditional Central American fish dish). The weather is fantastic- hot hot hot!
Tomorrow we begin our Bamba Bus adventure, our first stop is the beautiful city of Oaxaca which is home to the Zapotec people. We begin language school on Monday so hopefully our language skills will improve greatly so we can talk to the locals a bit better!
Hope all is well at home.
Hasta Luego!
Fi & Tom
