We arrived in Loang Prabang tired and with sore bums from the slow boat journey. Still with our new friends we decided to find somewhere for us all to stay. That was not be the case as we soon discovered finding one room was going to be tough enough, let along enough rooms for 7! We split up and not too long after everyone had a bed for the night. we head off out for some dinner and a look around Louang Prabang. First impressions of Louang Prabang were very good. There were lots of pretty little restaurants and cafes along the main road. We also found some amzing banana cake! There is also the market selling lots of beautiful souvenirs. I ended up buying a nice little painting with monks on it. How I'm going to get that home undamaged is a mystery!
The following day we explored Louang Prabang in daylight. We visited the temple on the top of the hill in the centre of down. Why is it all the best attractions are always up hills up hundreds of steps?! At the top there was a big drum being beaten by a group of young monks. There were also beautiful views all around Loaung Prabang. It was really scenic. Round the other side of the hill we saw the Budha's footprint and got to wave to some happy young monks. Over the other side of the hill there is another river. There were a group of kids happily playing in the river, swimming and having water fights. It looked like lots of fun. There was even a young monk joining in. Nice to see even monks are allowed to play. We took a walk around the old city. I love the style of all the buildings. They are so pretty. I was so surprised by Louang Prabang as it is not how I expected it would be at all. It was a lot more picturesque and modern than I had anticipated. However there was absolutely no sign of westernization, which was great! That night we went out for a nice meal beside the Mekong. However we were still in bed particularly early as everything in Laos appears to close by half 11!
The next day we took a trip out to a nearby waterfall. We managed to find some other travellers to bring down the cost of the tuk tuk and were off. The waterfall was really pretty. Not the biggest we had seen but the water was such a beautiful greeny blue colour. Further down stream we were able to go for a swim. Getting into the water was a little difficult as it was absolutely freezing. We had not come on the sunniest day either. Once we were in it was and lets say 'refreshing'.
I really enjoyed Loang Prabang. I didn't really know what to expect in Loang Prabang but was pleasantly surprised. I love the people in Laos too. They are all so friendly and smiley. They always say hello as they pass you in the street. I could happily have spent more time chilling out in Louang Prabang but at the same time was excited to be moving on to Vang Vieng.
