To get to Puno we were able to take a Peru Hop bus bound for Cusco to a town called Juliaca. From there we clamoured into a moto taxi then a crowded public bus for the hour trip to Puno. After checking into our hostel we made our way to the main square and found a spot for lunch and had an easy afternoon.
The next day we set about seeing what Puno had to offer. Close to the hostel was a little lookout spot that also seemed a popular place for some locals to drink, so we passed by fairly quickly. We moved on to the much nicer and higher lookout point Kuntur Wasi (Casa del Condor).
There was quite a few stairs to reach this point, not such easy work at around 4,000m! At the top was a big statue of a condor with a ridiculous comical face, but the view was pretty nice. You could see out over lake Titicaca with the Uros Floating Islands in the distance, and of course the less picturesque town of Puno.
From there we made our way back down the hill, a much easier task, and to the jetty. Jam packed with boats, we wondered if they ever all get used. There were hundreds! There was a nice walkway alongside the water which we followed, then headed to the central part of town and had a cheap set menu lunch followed by another quiet afternoon.
That night we had a great pizza in a restaurant the was playing a killer DVD called Classics Project 4. It was a mix of killer tunes from the 80's and kept us entertained for ages!
