We arrived in Concepcion at around 5.30pm, and the bus was kind enough to drop us at the cross street closest to our hotel. While it wasn't the most expensive hotel, it was actually quite nice and we were glad to arrive.
As we only had one night in Concepcion, we wanted to at least check out some of the place. Our hotel wasn't far from the port so we wandered down there. It wasn't very exciting, though we had just missed a massive party, the "Insane Selfie" party, by 2 nights. Bummer! Other than that we couldn't find much happening at all in Concepcion on a Monday night.
The next morning we checked out of our hotel at 10 and made our way to the bus station. Once we were about 2 blocks from the main road, the tarred roads ended. It was then that we realised why there was 100 motorbikes for every car in Concepcion. The roads would barely be passable in a car.
Arriving at the bus station, we had a few people start to shout destinations at us. We said we were heading to Santa Rosa, and they immediately knew that our final destination would be Laguna Blanca. Apparently all the tourists go there.
The next bus was back to the standard luxury we are used to, though we had the front seats on the upper level, from where you can see everything. This view, combined with a Kamikaze driver doesn't mix well! He was on a mission. Speed limits of 60, or even 40, were completely ignored as we barrelled along, weaving our way around other traffic. At one point, where we were at risk of not making it around a truck with an oncoming car, the driver simply honked his horn, the other vehicles moved out to the shoulders and he just continued to plough through the middle.
We got to Santa Rosa, were dumped by the side of the road near the bus station there, and off we went to find our next bus, the local one to Laguna Blanca. Once again, all the tourists go there, so they knew where our destination would be. While waiting, we indulged in some Chipa, a Paraguayan cheese bread, then jumped on the bus along the bumpy road to Laguna Blanca, to be met at the gate by our lift for the final 3km.
