Kourou is a very different looking town to Cayenne. It's a bit of a maze of narrow streets and low rise apartment buildings that appear to have been built solely to house employees of the space station. One of these apartments would be ours for the next few days. A lovely couple, Vanja and Hoëlig, lived there though we had it to ourselves as they were house sitting elsewhere.
On the afternoon of our arrival a stage of the Tour de Guyane was ending in Kourou nearby, so we went with Vanja to check it out. There was about 50 local and international riders competing, and everyone was very excited that a local took the yellow jersey.
While cooling off with a Caipirinha we gathered around the stage after the finish and did our best to catch some of the free merchandise thrown from the stage. Vanja caught a T-shirt which was perfect for Fergus now that his wardrobe is far too big for him.
The presentations were never-ending! There was a yellow jersey, white, blue, green, orange, pink, red, and every other colour you can think of. We watched a while until we got bored, then purchased some dinner and lunch from the supermarket for our trip to Îles du Salut the next day.

Jane That's a good way to get a new wardrobe.
