Friday, October 16th – Day 23 – Nomeau, New Caledonia
Today is Nomeau (New-may-a), we're about half way between Fiji and Australia and we’re about to hit France. Yes France. New Caledonia is a cluster of islands in the Coral Sea that is blessed with a massive coral reef and is considered a French enclave.
Noumea, the country’s capital, with a population of about 180,000 peoplecovers a peninsula on the largest island, the cigar shaped Grand Terre. Thanks to the happenstance of history and geography, Noumea is a mix of France and tropical beaches. Visitors to this city can snorkel at Baie des Citrons, walk up to Ouen Toro Park for a view of the city, or stop at the waterfront market for a pain au chocolate.
We finally found reasonable Wi-Fi. I've just about decided that we're staying here in Noumeau. With this grass skirt and my ukelele from Hawai'i, I think I can set up shop here - just need some of that war paint.
Next stop is Sydney and we pull out just after 4:00 p.m. It'll be good to get off the ship for some fast food.
Stay tuned for pictures once I hit Sydney.
Thanks for reading all this travel stuff.
