FARFRUMWURKEN
We survived the first night in our boat house on the Grootkade Canal. More importantly Deb was still alive when I woke up despite her coughing all night long. The beds were pretty good as I slept well again with the on-going wheezing coming from my chest. Hopefully we'll all be better by the time we hit Paris on Friday.
Deborah just couldn't do the walkabout today, so she stayed behind while T&J and I made our way to the Anne Frank Huis. This was about a 15 minute walk from where we were staying so we had no issues getting there for our 10:40 pre-booked appointment time. When we arrived there was a lineup that went clear around the block - maybe about a three or four hour wait to just get tickets. Tom had suggested that we pre-purchase tickets which we did. All we had to do was walk up to the appointment door - ring a buzzer and get let in immediately - wow we just saved four hours of my life.
This is definitely a house with a story. It was the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War. Anne was born in Frankfurt, Germany on the 12th of June 1929 - and was one of the millions of victims of the Nazi persecution of the Jews during the Second World War. Eight people were hide at 263 Prinsengracht in her father, Otto Frank's business was located. She ultimately was caught and went to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and died of typhus in March 1945.
We decided that with the next stop Het Scheep Vaari Museum which houses the Niew Amsterdam and old three-masted schooner which was quite far so we decided to get like the locals and take a tram to the next stop. We purchased an all-day ticket for the city trams for 7.50 Euros which was we've all ready paid for based on our current rides.
We thought we should go by the Centraal Station to check the train times for Deventer which means we're departing at 9:01 a.m. on a high-speed tomorrow to see my old buddy Berre. We've heard nothing from my cousin Tony and we have no way to contact them to see what's up. They do have our address - Hugo do Grootkade 22 so we'll see if they make it for our planned dinner.
We decided it would lunch on board boat today so we stopped by Albert Hejin Supermarket to pick up some staples for our lunch. It was a far cry from lunch onboard the Eurodam, but all-in-all T&J's tomato soupen tasted greaten - "Si".
Next stop Deventer - Stay tuned for potential accident reports to follow - there are buses, mopeds, bikes, stollers and potheads coming from all directions - you need to have you wits about you just the cross the street.

Roswita Hi Debby and Bob, I thought I mentioned that we would be reachable via email as I have my computer with me. Anyway, do you still want us to come to your houseboat in spite of your colds? We can search you out anyway, even if I don't receive an answer back. We have arrived at our hotel, Best western Airport, room 2528. Hope both of you feel better soon. Roswita
