Thursday, 29th April
Luckily I heard the 2nd alarm and woke the boys up, bleary eyed we made the flight in plenty of time. Flight was ok, Aukland was quick o transfer through and not a long wait before our flight to Tahiti. Met Jo from Essex, Angela and Catherine from Amsterdam and all headed to the 'Teamo' guest house. We are all sharing a dorm which is ok, then went for a walk into town to see if we could find an ATM, with the landladies warning 'be careful, you never know what might happen'. It was really dodgey so we weren't out for long, had to wonder through the red light district which is never reassuring.
Thurday, 29th April (Again)
We were all packed and ready to go by 8am and caught the 9am ferry to Moorea, having agreed last night that the Islands must be nicer and worth a go. Nelson's camping is right on the beach and we got a dorm room for 2 people for 1,800. It's the most beautiful bay, a small layer of rock a few metres into the sea and a ring of rock enclosing the bay where the waves broke leaving the bay completley calm. There are plenty of fish inbetween the reef in the bay and a path so you can swim though. We spent most of the afternoon swimming and gazing out to sea, it's one of those places where you can just watch the sea for hours. Clouds came over as the sun was setting to give a perfect sunset and end to the day.
Friday, 30th April
Nice lie-in, swam, read, wondered down to the shops to get some things for lunch there is a kitchen with fridge so nice to be able to keep drinks cold and make food when we fancy it. Huge thunder storm.
Saturday, 1st May
The storm last night has cleared the sky and left us with a beautiful day. The sea looks amazing with the blue skies so took lots of pics and a video, had another swim out through the reef , the water is so clear.
Sunday, 2nd May
Got packed up and out of our room and had a swim, very hot today. Had a bit of drama with the camera charger which I'd left charging at the hostal so had to go back for it in the taxi that had picked 5 of us up from the bus stop after we'd given up waiting for the bus after an hour and a half. On arrival back in Papeete we looked across the road d saw a 3 Brasseurs so went in for a beer while I wrote the postcards. Managed to blag a taxi with the last of our Polynesian Francs and realised how when our 79 year old driver took to the road. He really shouldn't have been on the road and I could see Tom checking his mirrors as he randomly changed from lane to lane. We made it, just about, and had a few hours to wait before check in but lots of amusing people at the airport to keep us entertained.
