Auschwitz and Birkenau were adjacent death camps - Auschwitz alone killed over 1.1 million from 1940 to 1945. Heart-wrenching scenes including a huge roomful of human hair shaved off the victims - 7 tonnes worth for recycling. A roomful of children's shoes. Photos of their processing of victims, missed during the mad scramble as the Allies advanced to liberate the camp. So many poignant sights. The Poles want us to come to bear witness so it never happens again.
