Roma, Roma it's good to be back in your crowded, noisy streets with your welcoming pickpockets, gladiators for hire and tourist touts. Oh, and Il Papa of course and his myriad nuns and priests thronging the streets.
Andre, Patricia, Jeannie and I had taken the excursion where you're dropped off in Rome and do it yourself. Being Sunday traffic is lighter so we elected for the Hop On Roma Christiana Bus. Not sure how the Buddhists are getting around.
St Marks Square at the Vatican was televising weddings inside with the pope appearing at midday (Sunday). Went all around Rome on the open top bus then got off for lunch and refreshing ales at a cafe in one of the squares before walking through to sights including the Pantheon, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain etc, and shopping for shoes and souvenirs. Jeannie found herself some nice Italian shoes.
We started running out of time so a cab ride to the Colosseum for a look, a long wait for the bus and we got back to the transfer bus a few minutes after deadline for the run back to the ship where the others filled us in on their day. Back up on the Lido Deck with our familiar waiters to see the ship leaving port, along with 5 other cruise ships, in the indigo twilight. Great comedy show in the Princess Theatre - real hands-on audience involvement had us all in stitches. Having a great time. Tomorrow we make our own way to Pompeii and Sorrento by local train -should be an experience.
