Last full day in Egypt. Got up late- hallelujah. Pyramid view from our room again. News that Kate has had a baby boy dominating the world news, and Cairo riots last night one killed 7 injured. Bought one 24 hour Wifi card but a real hassle getting it to log off each device- ended up ringing the server company somewhere around the world to sort it out. Explored the original palace part of the hotel including a private tour (for a gratuity) of a luxurious apartment where british General Montgomery stayed really close to the pyramids. Dylan stayed at the hotel while we wanted to see the pyramids up close and personal one more time. On foot. No guide. Walked out the grounds, walked up the roads to the pyramids - usual barrage of would-be guides and helpers. Some quite agitated locals probably discussing the current political situation. Shop outside the hotel was straight up on prices and friendly. The wannabe guides and hawkers have some good lines and will spend minutes chatting before moving into the sell. One donkey in a pork pie hat tried to get the tickets off us as we went through security claiming he was from the government. Another invited us to take a picture of his ass. Ok, he actually said donkey but he meant ass.
Wandered around the two main pyramids for a long time looking at all angles, batting off many approaches including one aggro one. Generally though once they tried for a few minutes there are no hard feelings and they move off. Wandered back down the road- they'd barred off the road into the pyramids and the locals were quite cranky about it. Back into the hotel and hit the pool. Long cooling session by the pool before a great dinner for all including vegetarian for Jeannie in the Indian restaurant. I ordered something with the word "fiery" in the title and my ring broke out in a cold sweat. Toughen up little one and stop crying - your turn is tomorrow. And the day after.
