As so many people had travelled so far for the wedding it meant most people were sticking around after so a few of us arranged a mini trip. The original plan had been to camp at Maya bay (the beach where 'The Beach' is filmed) however they have recently banned the camping trips there. Instead we chartered the same pirate ship we used for the hen do for the day from Phi Phi island to Maya bay and surrounding area and sleep on board anchored just off the bay. This was quite possibly one of the best days/ evening ever!
The weather was beautiful, I was with some of my favourite people and the setting was gorgeous. We sunbathed during the day, jumping in for swims whenever we wanted. We had canoes and donoughts to use all day. We arrived at the bay just as the other tour boats were leaving for the day and had the place to ourselves for a while. We walked through the paths through the jungle to the other side if the bay to go for a swim and then headed back to the boat to watch the sunset- gorgeous!
Dragonheart's crew are a bunch of really cool laidback people so we had pretty much had free rein and really took care of us. All day they'd bren serving fruit, snacks and beers. For dinner we had grilled fish, rice, panang curry, morning glory and pancakes for desert.
After dinner we went for late night swims. There were so many plankton it was amazing. swimming with hundreds of dazzling little lights around us - an absolutely magical experience in such a beautiful place. That night we slept on the boat, it was quite cloudy until the wee hours of the morning so we didn't get to see so many stars. But there was quite a bit of lightning which was incredible to see see it lighting up the sky above us.
The next morning we canoed over to the beach to get a final look before the hoards of tourists arrived. More great weather for the journey back to Phi Phi and after such a chilled two days no one wanted to get off the boat. absolutely incredible trip!
But on to the next adventure! The guys from the boat had asked their office to arrange our accommodation. Now given that its high season and Phi Phi looked fit to burst alarm bells should've been going off when we got a place all together but we didnt think about it. Instead we concentrated on celebrating the triple 30th birthdays that Laura had missed since being away- me, Emma and Vivian. So with the help of a few buckets, some table dancing in beach bars and. some fire poy by Doy we had a great nights craic. Now unfortunately when the first of our possee made it back to the ranch they found out that they would not be sleeping alone- there were bed bugs in 3 of the rooms. When I eventually made it home I found Laura, Vivien and Doy sleeping on the balcony to avoid the little b*****s. Now we didnt seem to have any in our room but I came home to find Emma sitting in the dark with no air con - poor thing,as the security guy couldn't find our key with the power pack card. So after a team effort in the search we found it so took in another of the refugees -John to our room as Id found hime sleeping in reception.
So after a fairly interesting night all round we were set to leave Phi Phi and head to Koh Lanta.
