Evey's World trip!
Well... we're back in Auckland after a very exciting week and a bit driving round the country and we fly to Fiji tomorrow! Hopefully the weather will be nice and sunny as its been a bit chilly here... still I don't mind that really. However there is a chance there might be some thunderstorms in Fiji, so we're just keeping our fingers crossed!
Well...the last entry I wrote was from Queenstown and we were just off to the minus 5 bar! So... that was an experience, first you have to pay in this whole other building and then they kit you out in a huge jacket, gloves and very unattractive poor mans Ugg boots!! We looked so gorgeous as you can imagine! Then we were led to what can only be described as a HUGE freezer! It was so funny.... they serve you these cocktails... obviously in tumblers made of ice.... you sit on ice chairs.... the whole bar etc was made of pure ice!! The staff could only work in 30min shift and you can only stay in there for that length of time too!
So the next day was to be our last day in Queenstown so we decided to have a little dirve around the area as there was some lors of the rings sites Danielle wanted to see. So we arrived at the Kawarau bridge... took a few photos... gasped at the beauty as usual... Then Evey spotted some Bungee Jumping! So an hour later there I am having some men tie my legs together and attatch only what can described as a large elastic band to my legs! At first I was attempting to me my usual confident self.... next minute... i was clinging on to the guy... telling him he couldn't made me do it... I was taking him down too and.... if i die... i blame you! Needless to say... I jumped.... however.... As I had taken the 'dunk into the water option' I didn't dive off the bridge like a normal person. Oh no... I held my nose and jumped feet first as though I was jumping into a swimming pool. I'm sure onlookers found it all rather hilarious... and I'm sure you all will too when i get home... as yes...its all been captured forever on DVD and photographs. I actually flipped over in the air due to my silly jump and hit the water really hard! Still it was totally worth it and as soon as I was in the little boat I was saying I wanted to do it again!
So from Queenstown we head to yet another beautiful place callec Franz Josef... here they had one of the biggest Glaciers in the south island... feeling adventurous after my bungee jump I decided to do a full day glacier walk which was just amazing. You can do half or 3 quarter days but apparantly you don't spend as much time on the ice as with the full one and the price difference was pretty minimal. We had to wear full waterproofs....gloves etc and these talon things on our boots so we didnt slip. We even got little walking axes at one point on the more tricky parts of the glacier. It was a great day and I had a really good group... which was great as I did it without Danielle and I worried I'd feel a bit out of it as we usually did everything together. The scenery was just spectacular and the ice looked really beautiful and amost blue in some parts. The guides had previously made out these little ice steps for us to climb on the really tricky bits which were maintained with her huge axe as we walked...it was very surreal! She even let me wield tha axe for a bit... i wasn't very good though!
Ok so from Franz Jspef we headed up the west coast of the south island stopping off at Greymouth and Nelson. Our faithful car Doris Althea Alberquque served us really well over the 2000km we drove!! We got the ferry from Picton to Wellington where we stayed for night and then travelled to Taupo. I was supposed to do a sky dive here but it got cancelled due to the wind. I was a little disappointed as I was all geared up for it. Nevermind... maybe another time! However I did manage to watch my bungee DVD as some other girls werev watching theres too!! Much to my embarrassment I created much more of a scene before jmuping than they did... and I thought I was so brave!
Yesterday we were in Rotorua for white water rafting.. we went down a 7m water fall... it was ace!!!! I only fell out of the boat once!!! Luckily I was wearing life jacket and all the team pulled me back in! At one point we all jumped out and linked arms to 'ride a rapid' that was kind of scary... but fun!
We also visited the set of Hobbiton from lord of the rings which also was really exciting... esp for danni who loves the films!! The set was on this family's sheep farm. The tour guide explained loads about how the scenes were done and how much crew they had there etc. I bet that family got paid a fortune! And they are allowing tours on their now as well! They had thousands of acres of land meaning the whole of the Hobbiton scenes could be filmed on just their farm. Even though alot of the set has been taken down for environmental reasons it still really did look so appropriate for Hobbiton.
Today we went up the skytower in Auckland... its the tallest building in the southern hemisphere! On one of the really high levels part of the ground was made of really thick glass which most people wouldn't walk on! I terrified those around my doing a little tapdance and lying down on it for a photo.... 200m over the ground!
Anyway... we fly to Fiji today in about 4 hours! Not sure on the internet situation there so not sure how often I'll be able to update.
Beter go as the shuttle is arriving soon!
Take care
Much love,
