After a bumpy ride we arrived at our second destination in the Yasawa Group- Barefoot Lodge on Drawaqa Island.
We got shown to our room which was a small wooden hut facing out onto sunrise beach. After this we returned to the main area of the resort to have a short mantaray talk in preparation for the next morning. We then proceeded to the bar area and chatted to some other backpackers. The resort was very picturesque and a bit more lively than safelanding- with around 30 guests ! Dinner on our first evening was a real treat, French onion soup, roast chicken and banana cake washed down with a lovely glass of Barefoot Red (Lucy's favourite!) After dinner we socialised around a bomb fire and enjoyed some personalised cocktails!
We were awaken on our second morning at 6:50 by the sound of the island drums. We leaped out of bed, threw on our bikinis and legged it to the boat - it was mantaray time!!! When the boat reached the spot we launched ourselves off the boat and into the cold sea. We followed the guide and waited for his signal. It didn't take long before the giants were in view. We saw 6 all together, and we were lucky enough to see a pair somersaulting in the water. After everyone had spotted the mantas we returned to land to enjoy a much needed buffet breakfast. All of us were amazed at what we had just seen, what a great start to our day. The remainder of our day was spent lying in the sun, transferring to hammocks and reading our books before enjoying a BBQ buffet lunch on the deck. After lunch , us and a guy called tom decided to hire out some kayaks, thinking this would be a nice leisurely afternoon activity. However it was much harder than we had anticipated!! An hour and a half later we had completed a loop of the island without crashing into any rocks.
We enjoyed another 3 course dinner in the evening ,followed by an international crab race. Sadly Mr Wales was disorientated, but England managed to take the crown!!
We made the most of our final morning in Barefoot even though it was rather overcast. We hired out some snorkels and took the reef of sunrise beach . We had hoped to spot some reef sharks but sadly we had no such luck. Nonetheless the coral was colourful and the fish was plentiful.
We were ready for our next destination - Waylailai Eco Haven Resort!
