Hey everyone,

Well you would not believe the heat here, it's melting stuff! At the moment i am in my hostel in darwin, been trying unsuccessfully to speak to mum and dad but didn't manage it- sorry, bloody computers!

I arrived in Darwin about 4.30am yesterday morning and spent the first few hours at the airport- no point going anywhere when it was pitch black outside and nothing open! Got talking to a couple from leeds, sally and dan who as it happened where staying at my hostel as well so we spent the morning together having a look at what is around. After eventually checking in and going for a long-wanted nap I met my room mates. I'm staying in a dorm with 3 other girls, and they seem nice. Nicole and Maj are from sweden or somewhere and jacky is from milton keynes who is on her 3rd travelling adventure.

sally and dan and i went down to a beach last night called mindil beach, the sunset was beautiful. we ambled back to where we were staying and had a bite to eat at a local restaurant. I was shattered by 11! So far (touch wood) haven't seen any big beasties, but when i was in the bathroom last night i looked up to see a ghekko looking down on me! It took me by surprise but i've decided i like them- where ghekkos are, mosquitos are not cuz they eat them!

The flight over here from singapore wasn't very nice- it was smooth but we were flying in a tin can not much bigger than a can of baked beans, and because it was so late there was no entertainment and very dark- everyone managed to sleep, i have no idea how! So for 5 hours i sat in the darkness trying to sleep. But once it was daylight i felt so much better. It's funny how seeing things around you and chatting to someone makes you feel better!

I was chatting to jacky about where Im going next. i have to get down to alice springs sometime next week, but a 2 day train ride doesnt' really appeal. I'm going to see if i can fly down at the end of the week- 2days on a train with nowhere to get off at, or a 2 hour plane ride?! hmm, it's a toughie!

I tried to load up photos so far but this site wasn't working last night, i've put a few on facebook but will put some on when i can later. I'm going to go to the local bakery and get some breakfast if i can now i think!

Hope you're ok, missing you all loads and loads. Please keep me up to date with what's going on at home, i like hearing what im missing!

Mum and dad will speak to you when i can. Going to buy an australian sim card so can text a bit more hopefully- don't want to think about how expensive my phone bill is going to be!
