A rainy day in Sardinia and we're all catching up on inside jobs. That means me writing this, Peter in his man cave doing I don't know what, Mike sorting out the offline maps on the ipad and Melissa trying to sort out a work contract.
So, to catch you up - We went from Santa Ponca to Andratx to get a few last minute deliveries to the boat eg the dinghy cover and the tables. Michael and Melissa flew in from Texas to cruise with us to Turkey. They are both involved in real estate on way or another so there is plenty to talk about. Our tables look and are fantastic - so very happy to have them like this now - see the pics.
Andratx is a lovely old town with an active quite traditional fishing fleet. We had been here. with Terry and Liz a few years ago and it was a pleasure to be back. We waited a few extra days for weather and left for Rapito on the Mallorcan southern coast of Palma Bay and anchored the night for an early off to Sardinia on the 10th. We had a quick swim and waterline clean on arrival which was lovely in clear clear water.
Of course the weather wasn't quite what it was forcast to be so a bit more of a lumpy ride than expected but no problems. A little bird hitched a ride with us for an hour or so. I think it must have been tired as each time we put it out it came back till we left it alone and it flew off of it's own accord a little later. It was not at all scared of us. Peter saw a funny looking thing off in the distance at one stage that looked like a person on a paddle board waving so we detoured off to see. It turned out to be a float with a tree branch attached to it waving around. Thinking it might be a drug drop we moved off smartly. We saw two more like it ??!!...who knows. We were warned last time we were in the Balearics to not touch odd looking buoys as they may be drug drops.
After a farily uneventful 40 hours during which Michael caught a tuna, (sashimi and a Nicoise salad) we arrived in Malfatano at 3 in the morning and anchored. Upon getting up we found we were in weed so moved over to the next bay where there is more sand. The guys played around with the dinghy and Melissa and I lay in the sun.
There is some nasty weather coming so we will hang here till it passes. We are trying to decide on going across the north of Sicily and through the Messina Starights or around the south coast. The north presents more northerly wind problems but the south is a bit further. As the Corinth Canal is cloed due to rock slides it won't make that much difference time wise.
In he meantime were all having a geat time with some terrific meals by Melissa with lots of ideas from all.

Mark I am so happy to read that you have someone on the boat who might know about maps! What a relief it must be not having to stop every lunch time when the Sun is overhead. (I see from the photos that Pete might still be a bit confused but I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it before long.) One word of warning: in my experience a lot of Texans think Texas is the centre of the universe (they’re wrong), so keep an eye out for sudden changes of direction towards the Gulf of Mexico. They’ll blame it on a “compass malfunction” probably. Don’t get angry, they’re Texans, they can’t help it. Just ask them what they think about New York, that’ll keep them happily distracted for hours and hopefully you and Pete can get yourselves back on course for Turkey !!
Gina Wow the photos are fantastic, feeling a little optimistic that we may be able to get on a plane soon. You both look well and happy, back on the water.
