Hey Guys! Sorry it's taken a while to update this but decent internet and time are not easy to find together. We arrived in Delhi on Monday morning and shared a taxi to our digs with a scottish hippy, covered in piercings and with dreads; thank God that we met her! As we approached Paharganj, which is where we were staying, the taxi driver displayed that he clearly had no idea of where he was going so after much confusion we decided to get out of the taxi and walk to Ajays. Thankfully Kim knew Paharganj and it turned out that our guesthouse was just opposite hers. If it had just been Dean and I, we'd have been wandering round aimlessly for god knows how long! In the afternoon we took a stroll along the main bazaar where a bleary eyed Dean was offered "very fine marajuana" at least six times; turns out he's just "too serious" according to our travel agent Safi aka Mr Adam Sandler
On Tuesday we headed off to explore Delhi with our own personal driver, Mr Singh, to show us the best sights the city has to offer. First stop was the Red fort (was home to the royal family) which was very impressive and very beautiful. The staring began here though and we were treated like celebs, not only were people asking for photos but they were trying to position themsleves so that we were in the background! It got a bit irritating as one guy followed us for 5 minutes videoing us on his phone. Next stop was the Lotus temple which is the place of worship for those of the Bahai faith. I had been before but both of us were equally blown away by its sheer beauty. The photos were wanted again and one woman even shoved her baby into my arms and shouted "smile"! Crazy!
After lunch in a restaurant that obviously offered commision to taxi drivers bringing tourists there, we stepped out to find our driver but Dean spotted a snake charmer and sat down to have his picture taken with him. As he stood up the man asked for his fee- 500rs (about 7 quid!). Needless to say we told him where to stick it and our driver thrust 20 rupees into his hand and we walked off. ooops!
We then visited India Gate and President house which were both in immaculate condition and under armed guard. Security has been stepped up apparently after the november terror attacks. A stop off at a giant textiles store rounded off our day around Delhi and our driver (again on commission) was disappointed that we didn't buy anything. They just don't understand "I'm on a tight budget"
We are currently in Jaipur and are off to Ranthambore National Park tomorrow but we will have to wait to tell you all about Jaipur as our driver will be here soon. Pictures will be coming soon too.
Love Em and Dean
