Hi again, I am very sorry for not posting the blogs as I was very busy with the campers almost for 2 weeks and the weekend in the middle as I was out most of the time which I have not got the time to sit down and type the new blog.
Week 1: It was an amazing week for me and I have enjoyed so much working with the campers! The age range was: 50-60 & I worked with female campers. They all were lovely and some of them can be very clever at some things and I was pretty exhausted working with them. We did a lot of activities together by doing some theatre acts, sports & arts & crafts. Mostly of them all enjoyed the activities and we almost went in the pool everyday but some of the campers did not want to go in and prefers to sit in the shade. I realised most of the special needs people likes to listen to the music if they feel bored or wants to be on their own. I felt that I was moving around A LOT more compared to my UK job at home and I hope I have burnt a lot of calories! Lol!
Weekend: Went to gay pride & I had a good time with my friends! It was really cool as we had like a mini concert & everyone raving with the music! We had drag queens walking around and boy they did look good! Everyone were in a very great mood and I've met some cute dogs around the pride and they were either walking through or sitting it in the shade. I did had a good time & bought myself two friendship bracelets. On Sunday- i FaceTimed with my parents and it was good to see them esp not FaceTiming them during the week!
Until then on Sunday noon, the new campers arrived and my 3 counsellors & myself had 3 men - one of them is a Down Sydrome. During the week, it was very challenging as two of them are the non verbal communicators so the only way you can get answers from them is a yes or no. But most of our campers love music very much which can be good so they are relaxed and enjoying themselves. We went down to the lake and we managed to encouraged 1 camper to get on the pool and he loved it! Success that was and it was very interesting to work with men and women for 2 weeks and I must say it was very very rewarding!
Now it is my weekend and guess what? I was struck by a cold so I'm like sniffing at the moment :( now I am taking my clothes to the laundry & later on will be having Chinese with all my friends! I can't wait & I will do my blog as soon as I can!
I may have put limited info on campers that is because of the confidentially of the camp & I can only put what it is appropriate.
But so far, I am loving it so far & feeling proud of my job! I would see myself doing this again next year or the year after!
That's all from me, Emmila xo
(I hope you guys like my picture as it is now my fashion taste of the bandana bow ;)
