1st, 2nd & 3rd July 2008: White rabbits! The start of a new month and we make our way to the island of Utila, off the coast of Honduras. I was imagining a serene and pleasant ferry crossing on the calm carribean sea, but our ferry was anything but that! Decided to sit out on deck at the front of the boat which was definitely the better option. I was happy to trade getting soaked by the massive waves instead of feeling sea sick! I ventured inside only when I belatedly realised that I had left my passport in my money belt - which was on me getting very, very wet! Luckily it was ok and all stamps are intact. We are staying at a lovely hotel on Utila, with great views over the ocean. Arrange some diving for the next few days (with the aim of finally getting my advanced open water!).
Have a lovely lazy morning the next day - and actually manage to get a lie in! Have lunch before heading off on the dive boat for the afternoon. Do two dives towards my AOW, see a school of small squid which was very cool, also moray eels and lots of parrot fish. Out to the infamous (to us anyway) Treetanic bar, a strange place full of treehouses, pyhscadelic toilets and many mosaics. But I'm up early to do my deep dive so off to bed early for me.
Do two dives on the morning of our last day on Utila, and have now finished my AOW! Yay! Celebrate with lunch and then ring Mum and Dad to tell them. Mum also has good news - she has booked her flights to Ecuador! So I will see her at the end of August and can't wait. Also speak to Si who has booked his flights to get to New Zealand on Christmas Eve! Definitely a day of good news, go to bed very happy.
