An early morning trip to the washroom ended with me probably waking up half of the room with the cracked to my head off the top bunk reverberating around the room!
Whilst packing my backpack into the car I felt as if I was being watched, I looked over towards the hostel and there was bambi, staring my out, not moving an inch.
We first headed to a town that had been recommended to both Krista and I, Coombs. Goats on the roof are the attraction with this town, however when they didn't come out to say hello, the pastry section in the store got our attention!!
Next stop of the day was Qualicum beach, however when we get there it was another seafront let down. This time the weather was great but the beach was a cross between pebble and wet sand. We got maybe 15 metres away from the car and had convinced each other that the best decision was to turn away from our final destination and head 60k back the way we came, to Sproat Lake.
After 5 hours in the sun we knew we were going to regret it! When we arrived in Nanaimo and assessed the damage we all looked like lobster was a fashion statement.
We checked into the hostel and totally lucked out, we got a private room, en suite with two bunk beds but each bunk was a double bed; all for $44!!
After an A&W 'Teen Burger' for dinner, Krista and Kay got a Canadian speciality drink; a Caesar. A drink that is basically a bloody mary, but instead of tomato juice they use Clamato juice. Tomato juice blended with Clam broth. Needless to say it was disgusting!
