We crossed into cambodia and got an overbooked bus to Phnom penh, even the driver had to have luggage on his knee Phnom penh was nothing like we had imagined, it was well built and very clean although it did have lots of limbless beggars and street children.
We hired a tuk tuk to take us to the killing fields, one of the places where pol pot a former cambodian leader masacered most of cambodias educated people and all there familys in his bid to " restart" his country. Not all the mass graves have been dug up and you can still see peoples bones and their clothes in the ground. we went to s21 a former high school that was turned in to a prison during the pol pot / khmer rouge time. class rooms had been turned in to cell blocks or torture rooms it was very sad and quite tear jerking
We decided our hotel was not in a good spot so we changed to a hotel by the lake in a backpacker area a much more chilled out place which we really liked
