Hello again! We have made it safely to China courtesy of our 2 day boat! Canteen food was interesting/ inedible, vending machine cup noodles and beers came to the rescue tho! Despite rumour they do not play the titanic theme tune as a wake up call in the morning, however, unfortunately they do announce that breakfast is available in both chinese and japanese style at 7am! Boat entertainment consisted of ping pong and nintendo wiii which worringly the captain seemed to spend a large amount of time playing! After 2 hours of quarantine checks on arriving at shanghai docks we were allowed off the boat as they decided we did not have swine flu.

Shanghai is very hot - 34 degrees! After an interesting taxi jouney when even the "english translator" did not speak english and 2 trains we arrived at our new hostel! All is good, 3.50 pound a night and the free breakfast includes museli and no dog! Spent today walking around shanghai which is a little tricky as apparently traffic is allowed to turn right even when the green man is on and pretty sure they get bonus points for white people! Chinese people like a stare at us-thinking about dying our hair black!

Booked our overnight "hard" sleeper train to beijing for thursday night so spending the next few days seeing the rest of the Shanghai sights. Have already seen the bund and pudong today.
