said goodbye to the first set of people who were all a brill laugh. met a few more folk who were joiing me matt and adam on the second half. there were all yankess.
packed mini day packs for the next 3 days and sent our backpacks onto our hotel stop in 3 days... heading into deep jungle about 4hrs from civilsation by coach then longboat.
stayed in a traditional longhouse which houses about 100 people including the tabin tribe. they put a dance on for us and we all had to take part which was halarious after some of the local rice wine, gash but potent! i did a quiz for us and the prize was choccy. matt (the cleveriest man in the universe) won but was ill so i ate the prize! we all slept under mozzy nets in one big room on the thinest matresses, and got woken up around 5.30 by cockrels and snorring. basic facilities so had cold shower and onto mulu by longboat again. mulu is the start of the headhunter trail. the story goes its called the headhunter trail as when a man wanted to marry a girl he had to proove his manlyness by killing one of her fathers enemies or he wasnt allowed to marry her. the trail was where they would travel down to reach the other tribes, nice! oh and they had to bring the head back to proove they had killed them..... it was an 11km walk through hot humid and damp jungle, with leeches to keep us company. the walk trail had all fallen tress and we had to keep diverting round. we were all knackered when we got to camp 5 which was another basic hut type room with no walls but under a mozzty net. next moring back to finish the rest of the trail after another cold shower and putting on smelly damp clothes again as nothing drys in the humid air. ive never stunk so much in my life. i made myself feel sick i smelt so much, but so did evrybody else so it didnt matter to much. after the 8 km treck i submerged myself in the clear water river with everything on it was so hot. we waited for the slow caoches to catch us up then into a longboat to the headquater lodges. a bit of luxury with hot showers and air con, bliss!
we walked to landu caves and deer caves (the biggest in the world) the bats do an air show around 5.30pm but they didnt come out for us, so returing tomorow to see them.. then had dinner. me matt adam (the only britts in the group) all stayed out and got drunk and played card game s***head. there were bats flying around our heads and insects everywehere.
sat--
took boat down river to see another cave systyem and saw huntsnman spiders, i was well scared...... went back to see bats and they put a lovely air show on for us this time...we walked back to our lodges in pitch black with a few torches, the jungle was full of weird frog noises, insects noises and other things i have no idea what they were...after so much walking i was longing for a wheelchair, and there it was, a rsurty old thiong sat by refeption.. so i got a push back in it and used it to carry my backpack to check out the next day.. i was in stitches with matt and adam over it and many photos were took to show the act..
