I have done so much on my 10 day trip up the west coast to broome i think i have forgotten so much. The first day was spent getting to know our group of 18 people whilst driving northwards to Numbung national park which is where the pinnacles are, i never realise there were so many of them. We walked around the park for a while and every one seemed to get on really well then it was back on the bus. We stopped for lunch on a nice little beach with some massive sand dunes where we tried a bit of sand boarding, not so easy but a good laugh i think only stuart the scot tried to stand the reat of us just sat and got a face full of sand. Before our stop for the night we went to Geraldton where we went to the HMS sydney memorial which was quite amazing the dome is made of i think 1647 sea gulls, then we went to horrocks of the night. Just over the road was the beach and a sea eagles nest with the full zoom on my camera you could just make out a chick. We all watched the sun set which was so nice as you will see from the pictures before our first meal and the end of our first day.
The next morning we went to kalbarri national park where we went to z bend gorge and went absailing the first time i was rubbish because there were loads of big over hangs and bashed my knee but the second time i knew what was below me so i could bounce down. i have some amazing pictures, we then went to the loop which is another gorge and also has natures window. We then headed north to denham for the night stopping off for a bit of sea rugby at shell beach which has no sant its just a lot of shells, not so fun to walk on. Needless to say my team won then we had a fight where the girls got on the guys shoulders and had to knock the others down, not as easy as i thought but it was all fun.
The next day we spent the morning at monkey mia with the dolphins i managed to get to feed them their quite gentle. We spent the rest of the morning swiming and singing to the dolphins at they come quite close to see whats going on. They kept popping their heads up about 2 or 3 ft away then dissappearing its amazing how inquisative they are and nice to be that close to wild dolphins. It was so nice to chill out for a few hours and we are all becoming really good friends which makes the trip even better. We went up the shark bay for a quick walk along the cliff and you could see baby sharks in the shallow water below, the to hamelin pool where the stomatoiltes are the oldest living micro organisms it was nice to see but not that interesting. We then got back on the bus and a long drive up to coral bay for the night so we had a big party on the bus, i'm just glad we have a good guide who takes us to the bottle shop every night and seems to enjoy the lively group.
The next morning we got on a boat for the day to go swimming with Manta rays on th ningaloo reef, it wasnt very warm and you could see dark clouds in the sky. Our first stop was a snorkelling sight not to far from shore is was amazing a great start to the day lots of fish and some great reef the colours are so bright. We had about an half an hour then it was off to find some Manta rays, the first sighting was amazing it was huge i think they can grow up to 5 meters and they rea so gracefull. The guide got in and started to follow but couldnt keep up so we went in search for some slower ones. There are so many of them around they found us one we could keep up with, i was lucky enough that as i was jumping in off the back of the boat the Manta ray was heading straight towards me so i go a great look at it i couldnt get over how big they are and it looks like they are moving so slow but they arent its impossible to keep up. We had time for one last snorkel to see some reef and fish which was great because they were feeding the fish of the back of the boat so you were swimming amongst all kinds of fish and could just reach out and touch them and they would nibble at you as if you were food. A very tired group got back on the bus for our drive to exmouth, where we got to have fish and chips for tea a treat form our tour guide.
Day five was very wet and cold we went around the exmouth penisular to cape range national park and the top end fo the ningaloo reef to do some snorkelling. The beaches would have been great except for the weather which was cause by a cyclone and the sea was far too cold i did the first snorkel but after that a few of us sat in the bus and ahd a party to cheer us up. The weather that night didnt get much better but the group is great and we make our own fun even had a slight food fight and then a few drinks in the evening.
We then headed inland to a town called tom price it was a long days driving to get to our desrination of Karijini national park. We started off early enough so that we could fit a walk in before it got dark, we went to knox gorge which was a fair way to the bottom where there are pools to swim in. It was quite warm and doing a long walk made the nice cool pool so inviting, then we had to make our way back up the steep gorge to get to camp. As tea was cooking the heavens opened and it rained like you wouldnt belive not ideal weather for camping.
The next day we went to dales gorge in the morning it was beautiful lots of walking and then the nicest pools i have ever seen. The walks are tough i didnt think they would be as bad but you have to scale around the edges some times quite high up holding on to little cracks in the rock, theres lots of spiders webs around so i was just praying that one wouldnt appear on my hand, it could have been a long fall. Then in the afternoon we went to hand rail pool which was nice only a short walk this time but the rocks down were quite slippy and the boys were placed to stop people going to far i was ok i just did the splits at one point. While we were there a few of us went for a swim along the gorge to a look out point which was really high up and looked down over a little waterfall. Back at camp we had a nice evening, i went for a shower with a red back, shocked myself that i didnt mind that much about it and it didnt rain so we could sleep in swags and watch the stars which are so bright.
The first walk of the day was the spider walk i think this was my favourite, i long narrow gorge where you have to walk along using your hands and feet on the sides on the cliffs because you cant walk along the bottom. It certainly put all your strength to the test because there werent many spots for hand or foot holes and i made the mistake off following anne marie whos really tall so could reach further than me. The little pool at the end was well worth it and we got to spend time chilling out and having a swim. Our second walk for the day was not so much a walk but a very ong swim which was exhausting, but there was a 10m overhang at the other end where a few people jumped off for the entertainment of us who had more sence. Then it was another night under the stars.
One last walk before leaving Karijini and we went to handcocks gorge which was only a short and easy walk, i was glad of this because i was falling over my own feet i was so tried. The pool was just as nice as all the rest i have seen with a nice little waterfall in to a little pool which was quite hard to get into and we all had to get pulled up but the tour guide. The rest of the day was spent on the bus going to the cattle station where we spent our last night. We got to the station just before sun set so went out to the mud flats to watch the sun go down, then had a huge mud fight and i got plastered never should have pickedd on the tour guide.
Our last day on tour was a quiet one i dont think any one wanted to split up, we went to 80 mile beach there were loads of turtle tracks where they had been coming up to lay. Anne marie had gone for a run and managed to see one going back into the water. We arrived in broome in the afternoon and went down the beach for a while before going out for the last dinner. Then back on the party bus and to the bottle shop and off on a mistery tour, we went out to some cliffs over looking the sea and to a place where at low tide there are some fosilised dinasaw prints. Then we had a little party on the beach we were lucky enough to come across a fire that had already been lit, even though there is a fire ban in western oz.
The next few days in broome were spent chilling out and saying good bye to people slowly leaving till it was just three :-(. Me and sharon flew back to Perth after we got a phone call from virgin blue at 6 am to say our flight was canceled and we couldnt get another one that day. So after talks with Qantus i managed to get on a flight back to Perth which was almost empty ******* virgin blue. But when we get to the airport it was shut and didnt open for another hour so we sat around much to the amusment of the secuity guards.
