My first day on my "Outback Experience" tour! There are 16 in the group, made up of a variety of ages and nationalities from a few Brits, a few Swiss, a couple of Germans, a Japanese guy and a Mexican frizbee professional!
We board our 4WD, of which we will spend many, many hours in driving along many bumpy roads over the next 6 days. Our first stop is Kalgoorlie which holds the worlds largest and most expensive gold superpit. And it was enormous, the digger trucks looked like miniture toy versions!
We then join the "Great Central Highway" of which many people have entered but not come out of the otherside and by the number of burnt out cars on the roadside and the increasingly bumpyness of the road, I can quite believe it.
As the sunsets, we pull up on the roadside to set up our first bushcamp. Not quite fully appreciating the concept of a bushcamp, I am forced into a sudden reality of no toilets (thanks for the tip of the toilet paper Liz!), no showers and in fact, no running water at all. We are quite literally in the middle of nowhere, with no light other than that of our campfire and sleeping arrangements consist of a swag bag under the stars. And I have another 3 nights of this!
