We had the most wonderful set up for the day. Mexico is famous for its underwater caves and cenotes which are pools of fresh water linked to cave systems. We went to Casa Cenote for the day, a Cenote with a beautiful beach opposite with crystal clear waters and luckily a lot less seaweed!
Having left early we were pretty much the first people to arrive at the cenote, meaning we could bask in the breathtaking clear blue pool of fresh cool water before anyone else. The water was clear as glass and was essentially a rock pool surrounded by tropical trees vibrant green in colour. The cenote snaked round so that you could swim through the water, lined on either side by jungly trees and suddenly it felt like you were somewhere completely different.
Once we'd had a good paddle we took to the beach, also empty, and lay on the inviting powdery white sand covered in oil ready to turn chestnut. We did this all day; rotated between the beach, the sea and the cenote - and with both the sea water and cenote water being extremely cool it was perfectly refreshing. Paradise.
Late afternoon we went to see the Mayan Ruins, however stupid us got here 7 minutes after the last entry time and so we couldn't go in! We walked to the beach and saw what we could from there; we both agreed that this was an incredible setting for a temple regardless. We walked down the beach and it was sad to be leaving beautiful Tulum. We got the bus to Playa Del Carmen, another beach town further up the Mexican coast.
Upon arriving in Playa Del Carmen it was immediately obvious why it was so famous for its nightlife. With restaurants, bars and clubs on every avenue it was very much the party scene. We checked into Hostel Che, got ready and took to the streets which were absolutely packed with people. We started off in one bar and got a couple of cocktails, then went back to drink our own rum extremely quickly before heading back out. Being two girls travelling alone seemed to have its benefits as all the promoters were offering us deals! Being drunk already from the rum we went to Santanera club, got our free drinks and as always it escalated. After Santanera so many promotors were offering us free entry to their expensive clubs - we ended up trying out about 5 of them and not having to pay a thing! They would grab your hand and trail you in behind them like their special guests which was hilarious as Liv and I were super drunk and sweaty and had no clue what was going on really. After club and bar hopping for a few hours we returned to the hostel, pizza slices in hand and went to bed. This is such a fun way to end my trip.
